PATH Academy

 

The PATH Academy (Providing Access to UNT Health) offers a comprehensive pre-health and research preparation experience for college students. It focuses on molding students who embody the values of UNT Health Fort Worth through preparation and learning enrichment opportunities such as summer internships, clinical enrichment, personal and professional development sessions, and co-curricular activities.

PATH Academy is designed for students who are interested in pursuing a career in health care and/or research and who are looking for opportunities to prepare themselves and enrich their learning experience through hands-on experience, dedicated mentoring, and professional development workshops.

Applicants must be:

  • Currently enrolled in a partner school:
    • Weatherford College
    • Midland College
    • University of North Texas
    • UNT Dallas
    • University of Texas at Arlington
    • Tarrant County College
  • Enrolled full time
  • In their freshman, sophomore or junior year of college
  • A Texas resident

To be considered for admission, applicants must:

  • Have a 2.75 overall GPA
  • Complete the internal application form, including a Personal Statement (300 words maximum)*
  • Participate in four PATH Academy Enrichment Sessions

 

*Essay topic:

Describe how the PATH Academy aligns with your personal and professional goals, and how it will help you achieve your aspirations in the field of health sciences. Discuss your motivation for pursuing a career in this field, and how the various components of the PATH Academy, such as mentoring, clinical enrichment opportunities, and co-curricular activities, will help you develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed. Finally, explain how you plan to give back to the community and make a positive impact through your work in health sciences.

Applications are open year round.

Q.  Does admission to the PATH Academy guarantee admission to my chosen graduate program?
A.  No, but participating in the PATH Academy will help you become a competitive applicant and will be considered in the holistic review of your future application.
