Dr. Rita M. Patterson
TCOM’s Rita M. Patterson, Ph.D., Associate Dean of Research, was honored with the 2019 Savio L-Y. Woo Medal for her ground-breaking biomechanics research. Dr. Patterson was chosen by her peers of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) to receive the prestigious national award. Dr. Patterson’s efforts have led to changes in surgical interventions and significantly impacted the treatment of patients with hand and wrist disorders.

Dr. Kimberly Fulda
A new federal grant has been awarded to the University of Texas at Arlington’s College of Nursing and Health Innovation, UNT Health, Johns Hopkins University and the JPS Health Network to confront the problem of medication errors in the elderly population. The four year, $2.5 million grant, will include TCOM professor Kimberly Fulda, DrPH; Annesha White, PharmD, MS, Ph.D.; and Anna Espinoza, MD. Investigators working on the grant will have access to primary care outpatient clinics through NorTex, a regional practice-based network.

Dr. John Licciardone
A two-and-a-half-year study conducted by the PRECISION Pain Research Registry and TCOM’s John Licciardone, DO, MS, MBA, FACPM, reaffirmed the importance of empathy and better interpersonal manner when treating patients with chronic pain. Third-year TCOM student Monika Schmitt, a PRECISION Clinical Research Fellow, helped craft the article published in The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association.
